Flyadeal airline of Saudi Arabia decided to choose Airbus A320 in place of the infamous Boeing 737 MAX.

Boeing Group on July 7 said Saudi Arabia’s low-cost carrier Flyadeal canceled orders for 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft due to “schedule requirements”. Instead, the state-run airline will operate its Airbus A320 fleet.

The agreement that Flyadeal has just canceled is worth up to 5.9 billion USD at the selling price, but the airline will be discounted by Boeing if it performs the contract. Flyadeal’s decision to cancel the deal was made after an accident involving the 737 MAX in Indonesia in October 2018 and then in Ethiopia in March, resulting in a total of 346 deaths.

After two consecutive aircraft falls, Boeing’s 737 MAX line was banned from flying globally, while the company sought to fix hardware and software errors that were thought to have caused the tragedy. The Flight Control Enhancement System (MCAS) is considered by the investigators as the culprit, causing the pilot to lose control of the aircraft before they hit the ground.

Boeing has partnered with investigators and released a software upgrade to fix the problem. It is not known when 737 MAX will be allowed to fly again.

Last week, Boeing said it would spend $ 100 million to support the families of two victims. This amount will be paid in two years and independent of compensation from lawsuits involving two accidents. However, the victims’ family lawyers have rejected this compensation request from Boeing.
